In the age of fast infromation, I currently see everyone are praising how society and community become magic word. And everything is connected to the society, as a whole. There some push from those platform to fuse every group into one giant society, with minimum difference.

And its kind of scary.

Lets get back to Middle Ages era and the time before.

The world is a vast land with mysterous animal, people and everything beyong we see at our environment.

This world is limited by our senses. We only see everything in front of us, we only hear the sound of our surrounding. Thus, we only process information near us.

In this world, the moral standard is simple, your environment. There are no information outside of your clan. You follow how everyone live their life and if you dont troubled with this, you just become new node in the culture building. If you troubled with established standard and routine, then you will have a dialectical process, a phase where you and your clan is debating how we should live our life.

Most of the time a person with new idea somehow able to introduce a whole new system through daily interaction. They just give example how the live their live, with somehow different but somehow identical. Which make the introduction process smooth and can be accepted by existing value.

This process is critical. Although there maybe only a hundred people around you, but if you able to convince that your new ‘way of life’ bring more enjoy and value to those hundred people then you just change the direction of a society.

Unfortunately, in this fast, free, unverified world this critical process is skipped.

Everyone want their new idea to be followed at once

Right now.

Without process, and different set of information, this will just shock everyone on different side.

And next is already predicted, rejection.

Same with Middle Ages society, rejection also occur, but the difference, those people know how to introduce it smoothly. They know it can hurt the ego if you judge everyone except you is wrong, and that’s how we come to compromise. Compromise make everyone on same circle able to live together living their own value.

Now, in this modern age, we can escape our circle and search for another circle which we dont need compromise, since it need you to sacrifice you comfort. The result as we can see, a polarized world with no compromise for each other.

At this point, social media become a “second reality” which we can live without compromise. And that’s bad.

How if those platform, second reality, is used to break our nearest circle further more. Or worse, to drive us.

Maybe limiting our information does not kill us at the end.
